Five Question Friday – 10/28/2011

Join the fun! Every Friday there are new questions to be answered.

1.  Do you prefer cotton, silk, or flannel sheets?

I tried all the above and here’s the short story: Silk – slid right off the bed, yeah, real helpful when you have a huge queen size bed and you already feel like you have to take a running start to get on it. Flannel – thought I was having a mega hot-flash, tossed and turned for most of the night until I decided to pass out on the couch. Cotton – much better.

Everyone has their own preferences, I get that. But for me and my house – we follow cotton.

Having worked in the home department at a big department store, I learned that once you get passed a certain thread-count, it doesn’t matter. But I stick to my favorite number count, touch the fabric if at all possible, and then call it a win.

Nothing beats nice, cozy, breathable cotton sheets.

2. What time zone are you in?

Eastern Time Zone. Much to my dismay…

I didn’t always live in the Eastern Time Zone. There was 15 years I lived in the Central zone. However, my parents moved us from Texas to New Jersey and thus began my life in the Eastern Zone. Boy did I hate it! All the shows were on late! I’m an early bird – once 10 o’clock strikes, my eyes start to close. So when I lived along the East Coast and learned my favorite shows started at 10, I was not a happy camper. (This was before DVR and trying to find a blank VHS in the house was a joke.)

When we first moved to Indiana, this state didn’t observe Daylight Savings Time. Half the year we were with the Eastern group and the other half was with Central. I live about 15 miles from the Central Time Zone line, so to me, Central Time Zone made the most sense, however, other’s didn’t agree and they continued not to observe daylight savings for a few more years. (The first 3 years we lived here, my family lives throughout the country and they had a hard time remembering when they could call and not be considered late.)

Once the state decided to observe the daylight saving schedule, there was a vote through-out the state. Ok, I know there was one down in my area. But no one listened to the logic. They decided since the capital (Indianapolis, not D.C.) was Eastern, then the entire state should also be Eastern, except in the areas where they spilled over into the Central Zone. One would think living 15 miles from the line meant we would be in that grouping. Nope!

Not here. We are still Eastern…much to my displeasure. There is a good side of being Eastern in a true Central Zone – the summer evening lasts well after 10. No flashlight required.

3. What is your favorite part of the holiday season?

I am one of those people who celebrate Christmas all year round. Don’t hate me. I don’t push the season on others, unless it is close enough.

My favorite part of the season would be looking at the lights. White, solid, multicolored, I have no preference. I love them all.

4. What is your favorite “wintry” drink? (It doesn’t have to be an “alcoholic” drink!)

Nothing beats a steaming cup of hot chocolate topped with Whipped Cream…well, maybe hot cider….

5. In your opinion, what is the worst job in the world?

Mucking. Anything that has to do with poop and cleaning it for another species – be it human, horse, cow, dog, well, you get the idea.
